Why Are Walkers in France Stronger, Faster, and Possibly More Intelligent?

The spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon introduced a terrifying new breed of walkers that behave differently from those seen in the main series. These French variants are not only faster and stronger, but some even seem to have rudimentary intelligence, making them a far greater threat than the traditional slow-moving hordes. But why are they different?

One possibility is that these evolved walkers were the result of scientific experiments, as hinted at in World Beyond. The post-credit scene of World Beyond showed a French laboratory where researchers may have been trying to cure or control the virus, only to make it worse. If these walkers continue to spread, they could change the entire dynamic of the Walking Dead universe, making survival even more difficult.
